The Atlantic Coast Conference released their conference’s players of the week on Monday afternoon for week three of the season. Per usual, the players selected were voted on by a 14-member media panel. Florida State and North Carolina each had two players selected, which was tied for most in the ACC on the week. Here are the honorees.
Offensive Back: So. QB Brad Kaaya, Miami
- 25 for 42 for a career-high 379 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-33 OT win over Nebraska
Offensive Lineman: Sr. OG Landon Turner, North Carolina
- Graded out at 90% for the third consecutive week, and recorded 11 knockdown blocks in UNC’s 48-14 victory over Illinois.
- Aided UNC in their offensive effort in which they recorded 471 total yards, which included 254 yards rushing.
Receiver: Jr. WR Tyler Boyd, Pittsburgh
- 10 catches, 154 yards, and a game-tying touchdown catch in the final minute of regulation, in the Panthers’ 27-24 heartbreaking loss against Iowa.
- Boyd is now second all-time at Pitt, as he has recorded 184 career catches.
Defensive Lineman: So. DT Harold Landry, Boston College
- Career-high 11 tackles, including seven solo tackles in a 14-0 loss to Florida State on Friday night.
- 4.5 of his 11 tackles were for loss, and he also recorded 1.5 sacks on the evening.
Linebacker: r-Sr. LB Terrance Smith, Florida State
- Six tackles, including 2.5 for loss, as well as a game-clinching forced fumble in Florida State’s win over Boston College.
- Spearheaded a defensive effort in which the ‘Noles only surrendered 195 total yards to the Eagles.
Defensive Back: Jr. CB Jalen Ramsey, Florida State
- Six tackles, and a 36-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, that iced his team’s 14-0 win against Boston College.
- Ramsey’s six tackles included five solo stops.
Specialist: Jr. WR Ryan Switzer, North Carolina
- After a dry spell, Switzer broke out in a win against Illinois, putting his elite return ability on display. He returned five punts for 168 yards, which included an 85-yard return for a touchdown, and another 71-yard return that set up a field goal.
- Switzer’s sixth career punt return touchdown tied an ACC record, and extended his own personal school record at North Carolina.
Rookie: Fr. QB Kendall Hinton, Wake Forest
- Hinton replaced injured QB John Wolford on the third play from scrimmage in Saturday’s 17-14 win at Army. He went 15 of 27 for 159 yards, and ran for two touchdowns.
- Hinton was instrumental in setting up the game-winning field goal on the final drive of the game, as he led a 12-play, 64-yard drive.
