Who’s Playing Whom In Basketball Next Year?

Boston College will host all of the league newcomers next season.

The ACC announced pairings for conference basketball games in the 2013-14 season Tuesday. While dates have not been set for the contests yet, it allows fans the chance to see which conference matchups they can anticipate in the coming season.

Each team will play 18 conference games. Each team’s slate will consist of four opponents in both home and away games, leaving ten opponents to face either at home or on the road only.

Boston College
Home: Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech
Away: Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest

Boston College will reunite with former Big East buddies Notre Dame and Syracuse in home-and-home series in 2014. They’ll also host Pittsburgh, giving them home games against all of the league newcomers.

Clemson
Home: Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, NC State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Wake Forest
Away: Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest

Clemson will visit all of the conference newcomers next season. Their home slate isn’t going to be particularly glamorous to Tigers’ fans: Outside of Pitt and Duke, either defensive-minded Virginia or a Florida State squad that may or may not have Andrew Wiggins are the best draws.

Duke
Home: Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Away: Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Wake Forest

Two Duke-Syracuse games? With matchups like that, we could get used to this new ACC thing. Maryland will pay a final visit to Cameron Indoor Stadium, but the Blue Devils will not be returning the favor.

Florida State
Home: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech
Away: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Maryland, Miami, NC State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Wake Forest

Depending on the outcome of the Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes, the freshman could be drawing fans to the Donald L. Tucker Center all season or paying a very special visit wearing Carolina Blue. The Seminoles will also host Notre Dame, Syracuse, while paying visits to Duke, and Pittsburgh and enjoying a home-and-home with Virginia and Miami.

Georgia Tech
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech
Away: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Maryland, NC State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Wake Forest

Boston College and Duke will make their first visits to McCamish Pavilion after being road-only opponents of the Yellow Jackets last season. Both of those teams are home-and-home opponents for Georgia Tech, along with Clemson and Notre Dame.

Maryland
Home: Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest.
Away: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, NC State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech

No home game with Duke or North Carolina in Maryland’s final season in the ACC? In case there was any question about where the Terrapins fit in the home office’s heart. They will get to host the gauntlet of newcomers as well as Virginia, so there’s no shortage of potential excitement in College Park, but the Duke-UNC snubs should have folks feeling raw at Maryland.

Miami
Home: Boston College, Duke, Florida State, NC State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Away: Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Along with a home-and-home with rival Florida State, the Hurricanes will play NC State, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech twice next season. Miami hosts all the league newcomes along with Duke, so there will be plenty of intriguing opponents visiting Coral Gables to play a team that will look almost nothing like its 2012-13 counterpart.

NC State
Home: Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Wake Forest
Away: Clemson, Duke, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest

The Wolfpack will pay visits to all three league newcomers in 2014, only hosting Pittsburgh as part of a home-and-home. They will also visit Duke without a return trip. Really, NC State’s road slate is brutal.

North Carolina
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Maryland, Miami, NC State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest
Away: Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest

North Carolina’s trips to the Carrier Dome and the Joyce Center are more examples of the mouth-watering matchups the expanded ACC will provide in basketball. Oh, and you have the two games each year between Duke and North Carolina.

Notre Dame
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, NC State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech
Away: Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Syracuse, Virginia, Wake Forest

Notre Dame was a Wake Forest game away from nailing the “Hosting the North Carolina teams” foursome. Mike Krzyzewski’s Duke squad will make the trip to South Bend to face his former assistant, Mike Brey.

Pittsburgh
Home: Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Maryland, NC State, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Away: Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse

Pitt fans will be excited about the opportunity to host Duke next season. The downside, of course, will be road-only meetings with North Carolina and Notre Dame. Pittsburgh and Syracuse share a home-and-home series.

Syracuse
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh
Away: Boston College, Duke, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest

Unfortunately, there will not be a trip to Clemson Denny’s locations in Jim Boeheim’s near future, as the Orange will host the Tigers in 2014. Syracuse probably has the friendliest conference slate. After a home-and-home with Duke and Pittsburgh and a visit to Charlottesville, the toughest road test is likely Florida State.

Virginia
Home: Boston College, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
Away: Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech

The Cavaliers are one of Notre Dame’s home-and-home opponents, and they’ll have to face Duke in Cameron. Otherwise, it’s a pretty lenient schedule for Virginia, which is good news for a team that could be taking a leap forward next year (and finished fourth this season).

Virginia Tech
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Maryland, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Syracuse, Virginia, Wake Forest
Away: Boston College, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Virginia

Virginia Tech did not get to host Syracuse in basketball during four seasons together in the Big East, but will do so during Syracuse’s first ACC season. The Hokies will have trips to Duke, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh (and a home-and-home with Virginia, naturally), so it will be a tough road for a team that struggled last season and loses Erick Green.

Wake Forest
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Syracuse
Away: Clemson, Duke, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Wake Forest will have two games against Duke, NC State, and North Carolina, the first time the Demon Deacons have had six regular season games against their three in-state rivals since the ACC expanded to 11 teams in 2004-05. Their other home-and-home series will be against Clemson.
