ACC Announces Week Five Conference Players of the Week

The Atlantic Coast Conference released their conference’s players of the week on Monday afternoon for week five of the season. Per usual, the players selected were voted on by a 14-member media panel. This week, North Carolina and Clemson head the list with two honorees each. Here’s the full list.

Offensive Back: Sr. QB Marquise Williams, North Carolina

  • What quarterback controversy? Williams put all of that talk to rest with an outstanding performance in a come-from-behind victory over Georgia Tech.
  • Williams rushed for a career-high 148 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, he reeled in a 37 yard touchdown pass on a throw from receiver Quinshad Davis for his fourth total touchdown of the afternoon. Williams also added 134 yards passing on the afternoon.

Offensive Lineman: Sr. LG Caleb Peterson, North Carolina

  • Graded out at 89 percent in the comeback victory over Georgia Tech
  • Recorded 13 knockdown blocks, a career-high for him, while anchoring an offensive line that rushed for 231 yards on the day.

Receiver: r-So. TE Cam Serigne, Wake Forest

  • Serigne played well on a big stage in a loss to Florida State on Saturday, catching 10 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown in the contest.
  • He is sixth in the conference in receptions per game at 5.2, and is currently tied for eighth in the ACC in total receiving yards, as he sits with 300 yards through the first five games of the season.

Defensive Lineman: r-Jr. DE Kevin Dodd, Clemson

  • Dodd was the bellcow on defense for Clemson in Saturday night’s win over Notre Dame, as he recorded six total tackles including the game clinching takedown of Irish QB DeShone Kizer on a two-point conversion with less than ten seconds to go.
  • The seven tackles included 3.5 tackles for loss, a pair of sacks, and a forced fumble in the crucial 24-22 home victory.

Linebacker: Sr. LB B.J. Goodson, Clemson

  • Goodson was another player on the Clemson defense with a huge game on Saturday night, registering five tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery
  • His interception and fumble recovery both came in the fourth quarter at huge moments, as the Tigers looked to slow Notre Dame’s comeback momentum.

Co-Defensive Backs: So. DB Trey Marshall, Florida State and Jr. S Terrish Webb, Pittsburgh

  • Sophomore defensive back Trey Marshall led the ‘Noles with a career-high 11 tackles and a pass breakup in the team’s 24-16 win over Wake Forest.
  • In a 17-13 win over Virginia Tech, Pitt safety Terrish Webb broke up two passes, had an interception, and recorded four tackles. He aided the Panthers defense in limiting Virginia Tech to 100 yards of total offense.

Specialist: Sr. K Ross Martin, Duke

  • The award this week is a no-brainer, as Ross Martin singlehandedly won the game for Duke over Boston College with his leg. The senior placekicker hit field goals from 36, 38, and 53 yards in the Blue Devils’ 9-7 win over Boston College in a defensive struggle.

Rookie: Fr. QB Lamar Jackson, Louisville

  • Jackson won Rookie of the Week once again as he helped lead the Cardinals to their second consecutive victory as they defeated NC State 20-13 in Raleigh.
  • He rushed for 121 yards on 19 carries, which included a 68-yard touchdown run. With the rushing effort, Jackson holds the school record for rushing yards in a season by a quarterback, carrying the ball 66 times for 435 yards. Jackson also threw for 103 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
