ACC Basketball Recruiting Update

It’s been a busy week for basketball recruiting news across the conference, as Virginia, Clemson, and Wake Forest added to their 2016 classes. Meanwhile, an international big with perimeter shooting ability has inched closer to making his college decision. Find out all of the details below.

2016 three-star wing Scott Spencer has committed to Clemson, according to multiple reports. Spencer, a 6’5″ wing out of the Blue Ridge School in Virginia, averaged  11.8 points per game last season on 41% shooting. He played AAU ball with Team Wall in North Carolina, and should provide a solid perimeter scoring threat for Brad Brownell’s club in the coming seasons.

International star Lauri Markkanen has narrowed his list of potential college teams to three, and the North Carolina Tar Heels have made the cut, according to a report from Scout. He will go on an official visit to Carolina on October 13th and 14th. The 6’10” power forward out of Finland will also take visits to Arizona and Utah on his trip to the United States, before he settles in on a decision. Markkanen put on quite the showing at the U-18 Championships last week, as he produced a robust line of 18.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for Finland.

Scout’s 30th ranked player in the country for 2016 made his decision this week, as four-star forward Mamadi Diakite committed to the University of Virginia. Standing at 6’9″, Diakite is one of the elite talents in the 2016 class, but according to multiple reports, there is a real possibility that he could re-classify and enroll this fall at Virginia. Check out his highlight film below.

Washington, a 2016 three-star shooting guard out of Walsingham Academy in Newport News, committed verbally to Wake during a dinner visit to head coach Danny Manning’s house earlier this week. Washington is the second recruit in Wake Forest’s 2016 class, as the perimeter shooter looks to continue to refine his offensive game to become more than just an outside scorer when he hits the next level.
