ACC Basketball Recruiting Update

While basketball season is still a ways away, there has been some pretty significant hoops news across the ACC as it relates to the recruiting front. Here are some of the biggest stories across the conference.

Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried hit a home run this week when 6’6″ SF Maverick Rowan committed to NC State and made it known that he was going to reclassify from the 2016 class into the class of 2015, so that he could play this winter for the ‘Pack. As a five-star recruit on Rivals and a four-star recruit and top 100 recruit on ESPN, Rowan should step right in and contribute his stellar outside shooting immediately in Raleigh. He chose the Wolfpack after originally rescinding a verbal commitment to the Pittsburgh Panthers.

After a very impressive summer of AAU basketball, 6’4″ 2016 SG Andrew Jones out of Irving, Texas will be taking five unofficial visits this coming week, including one to the University of Louisville, according to Evan Daniels of Scout.com. Jones is a four-star recruit who is expected to enter into Scout’s Top 100 prospects in the nation when the rankings are released sometime next month.

Washington, a three-star prospect out of Williamsburg, Virginia, verbally committed to Wake Forest after a successful summer of AAU ball for Team Loaded Virginia. Washington is the second member of Wake’s 2016 class, as he joins guard Brandon Childress as the first commits to pledge the Demon Deacons.

In an interview with Scout.com, five-star prospect Frank Jackson informed the recruiting service that he cancelled his planned visit with Arizona and will visit Duke on an official visit during the weekend of August 29th. He said while the Wildcats are still very much involved in his recruitment, he wanted to make Duke his final official visit before making a decision about his future sometime in the near future. Jackson is a deadly outside shooter, who is currently among the elite prospects in the class of 2016, sitting at the top of almost every list from various recruiting services across college basketball.
